Nearly one year after the closing of Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai on 13 October 2025, its ideas, innovations and creations continue to inspire communities across Japan and beyond. Held under the theme “Designing Future Society for Our Lives,” Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai brought together 165 Official Participants (158 countries and regions, and 7 international organisations) and welcomed more than 29 million visitors.
While the former Expo site continues to undergo works to prepare for its next life, the Expo’s legacy can be felt far and wide, thanks notably to the pavilions, objects and materials that have found new homes since the Expo closed its gates.

When Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai closed its gates on 13 October 2025, its spirit of curiosity, exchange, and global dialogue continued to live on. Among the many ideas brought to life at the Expo, the Uzbekistan pavilion was conceived as a project that extends beyond the moment. From its earliest concept, the “Garden of Knowledge: A Laboratory for a Future Society” was shaped with a life after the World Expo in view. Following the closing of the event, the pavilion began a new journey, travelling to Nukus, Karakalpakstan, where it will be rebuilt as part of a new Children’s Library and cultural campus.

One year after the gates of Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai closed, the innovations it showcased continue to make their mark. Among them are the winners of the first Expo Innovation Award, created by the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) and the Global Industrial and Social Progress Research Institute (GISPRI), to recognise Technological Innovation and Social Innovation showcased at Expos.

Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai has officially reached its half-time and Yumeshima – the Island of Dreams – roamed daily by thousands of people from 158 countries and regions around the world, is becoming the place for connecting visions for a better future. It is a place where going from the artistic exhibitions of France to the United Arab Emirates with a subsequent visit to the huge wooden structures of China is a matter of minutes. Where many cultures – some perhaps outside of one’s expertise – are adjacent to each other and easily accessible for visitors, ready to showcase their beauty and prosperity. These cultures can be imagined as many different coloured threads, weaving a multi-coloured carpet for future generations to walk on through joint contributions to this Expo’s motto of “Designing Future Society for Our Lives”.
