BIE Capacity Building Programme to be held in Senegal
The Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), in partnership with the Government of Senegal, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, and the Senegalese Export Promotion Agency (ASEPEX), is organising a Capacity Building Programme session in Dakar on 15–16 September.
This two-day multilateral training session is part of a dynamic of regional cooperation and expertise-sharing around Expos. Participants, representing countries from the region, will take part in thematic workshops led by the BIE on the process of organising Expos, the benefits of participation, and the operational aspects of setting up a pavilion. The session notably aims to support countries in preparing and optimising their participation by covering every stage of the process, from conception and implementation to maximising its impact.
Over two days, the training will provide a conducive environment for exchange among participants, fostering the sharing of experiences. Dedicated sessions on Specialised Expo 2027 Belgrade and World Expo 2030 Riyadh will also provide detailed information on the technical aspects and specific opportunities offered by upcoming Expos.
The Capacity Building Programme is a BIE initiative aimed at supporting its 184 Member States by enhancing their knowledge and expertise in participating in and organising Expos. It contributes to fostering their engagement in these international events and creating the best possible conditions for Expos to serve as platforms for multilateral cooperation, public diplomacy, and education.
An active member of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), the Republic of Senegal regularly participates in World and Specialised Expos. Taking part in Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai last year, Senegal’s pavilion presented the country as a crossroads for the future, and introduced visitors to the concept of “Téranga”, the country’s traditional concept of hospitality.
The next Specialised Expo, Expo 2027 Belgrade, will take place from 15 May to 15 August 2027 in Belgrade, Serbia, under the theme "Play for Humanity – Sport and Music for All". The next World Expo, Expo 2030 Riyadh, will be held from 1 October 2030 to 31 March 2031 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, under the theme "Foresight for Tomorrow".
