With Expo 2020 Dubai having closed its gates on the night of 31 March 2022 after 182 fabulous days, the final episodes of the Inside Expo podcast take a look at some of the Expo’s iconic pavilions, its dedication to the UN’s SDGs, and how to say goodbye.
In ‘The Powerhouse Pavilions’, the podcast takes the example of just three of Expo 2020 Dubai’s pavilions – the UAE pavilion, Alif – the Mobility Pavilion, and Terra – the Sustainability Pavilion – in order to explore the ways in which this Expo will, like others in the past, have a lasting impact on the history of architecture and the built environment.
In a double-feature, ‘Opportunity I: The Global Goals and Expo 2020’ and ‘Opportunity II: Mission Impossible’ address the multiple ways in which Expo 2020 Dubai brought attention to and drove action in favour of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. From the UN’s own participation in the Expo to the pledges that visitors signed up for while in the Opportunity Pavilion, the episodes are a reminder of how closely linked the Expo’s goals are to those of all humankind.
Finally, the last episode in the series, ‘Saying Goodbye to Expo 2020 Dubai’, focuses on the inevitable; the closing of the Expo 2020 Dubai chapter and the progression onto the next phase in the Expo story.
