Applications for the BIE-Cosmos Prize Expo 2027 Yokohama are now open, inviting not-for-profit organisations and citizen projects from around the world to submit initiatives that contribute to the Expo’s theme “Scenery of the Future for Happiness”. Applications may be submitted until 20 November 2026.

Horticultural Expo 2027 Yokohama will explore the relationship between humanity and the natural environment, highlighting the role of flowers, greenery and agriculture in creating sustainable societies and enriching people’s lives.

The BIE-Cosmos Prize Expo 2027 Yokohama will recognise and reward outstanding not-for-profit projects that contribute to the Expo’s vision of a future where people and nature thrive together. Applications are open to individuals, NGOs, social enterprises, research institutes and other entities whose initiatives align with the Expo’s theme, “Scenery of the Future for Happiness”, and one or more of its sub-themes: “Co-adaptation (Harmony with nature)”, “Co-existence (Co-existence through greenery and agriculture)”, “Co-creation (Creation of new industries)”, and “Co-operation (Resolution through co-operation)”.

Eligible projects are invited to submit their applications by completing the application form, in English or in French, by 20 November 2026. Shortlisted candidates will have the opportunity to present their work and achievements at Expo 2027 Yokohama, where an international jury will select the winning project. The recipient of the BIE-Cosmos Prize will be announced at the award ceremony to be held at Expo 2027 Yokohama on 25 September 2027, and will receive a donation of 20,000 euros.

The BIE-Cosmos Prize is a collaboration between the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) and the Expo ’90 Foundation of Japan, which commemorates Horticultural Expo 1990 Osaka and its guiding principle of “Harmonious Co-existence between Nature and Humankind”.

The BIE-Cosmos Prize has been presented at Expos since 2008, supporting citizen projects that promote the themes and values of Expos. The Prize reflects the shared ambition of the BIE and the Expo ’90 Foundation to give greater visibility to initiatives led by civil society and to support projects that contribute to a better future.

At Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai, held under the theme “Designing Future Society for Our Lives”, the BIE-Cosmos Prize recognised ONG Mon Enfant, Ma Vie (“NGO My Child, My Life”) for its MoussoTech project. Previous recipients include the N/a’an ku sê Foundation for its Conservation Research Project – Rapid Response Unit at Expo 2020 Dubai, and the National University of Lesotho for its initiative to design and produce low-cost solar collectors at Specialised Expo 2017 Astana.
