International jury visits Horticultural Expo 2023 for Official Participant Awards

An international jury composed of 10 members has completed a 2-day visit of Horticultural Expo 2023 Doha’s gardens and pavilions in order to determine the recipients of the Expo 2023 Doha Awards.

Members of the jury have been assessing the landscaping, and exhibition design of International Participants, as well as their interpretation of the theme of the Expo, “Green Desert, Better Environment”. The jury is composed of experts in a range of fields and includes the Secretary General of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), Dimitri S. Kerkentzes, and the President of the General Assembly of the BIE, Alain Berger.

More than 70 countries and international organisations are participating in Horticultural Expo 2023 Doha, with their pavilions and gardens situated in the International Zone of the 170-hectare Expo site.

Expo 2023 Doha, which opened on 2 October and runs for 179 days, offers visitors a multitude of experiences, events and exhibits focused on mitigating desertification and developing sustainable agriculture.

The subthemes of Expo 2023 Doha are Modern Agriculture, Technology and Innovation, Environmental Awareness, and Sustainability. The Horticultural Expo, which will close its gates on 28 March 2024, is host to a large number of events, including National Day celebrations, cultural performances and theme-related meetings. Expo 2023 Doha has organised over 1,500 events and over 250 workshops since its inauguration two months ago and has recorded over 1 million visitors in its first two months.

Horticultural Expos have been recognised by the BIE since 1960 and are aimed at fostering cooperation and the sharing of knowledge and solutions between countries, horticultural producers and agricultural industry by addressing the paramount issues of healthy lifestyles, green economies, sustainable living, education and innovation. The previous Horticultural Expo took place in 2022 in Almere, the Netherlands under the theme “Growing Green Cities”. The following Horticultural Expo will take place in 2027 in Yokohama, Japan, under the theme “Scenery of the Future for Happiness”.
