“World Expos as Experiments in Mega-Change” at the World Expo Museum

The World Expo Museum in Shanghai was host today to Expo 2020 Dubai’s World Majlis conversation, dedicated to “Cities, Futures, Change: World Expos as Experiments in Mega-Change”. The event is the second World Majlis to take place outside of the UAE, following a New York edition in September 2018 focused on innovation.

The urban mega-change topic of this World Majlis edition reflects its venue – the World Expo Museum is located on the former site of World Expo 2010 Shanghai, themed “Better City, Better Life”.

Gathering key opinion formers from across the world, the event was an opportunity to exchange and share perspectives on the role of Expos in transforming cities. Conversation notably focused on the specific ways that Expos impact their host cities – physically, culturally and economically – as well as the insights that Expos can provide in imagining the cities of tomorrow.

The Secretary General of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), Vicente G. Loscertales, participated in the World Majlis.

In the run-up to the next World Expo, several more World Majlis sessions will take place in the UAE and across the world, bringing together thought leaders as well as university students to facilitate global conversations and create connections in line with the theme of Expo 2020 Dubai, “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future”.
