The BIE is the Intergovernmental Organisation in charge of overseeing and regulating all international exhibitions that last more than three weeks and are of non-commercial nature ("Expos"). Today, 4 main types of Expos are organised under its auspices: World Expos, Specialised Expos, Horticultural Exhibitions and the Triennale di Milano.

Main responsibilities

Under the authority of the Secretary General, the incumbent shall carry out the following duties:

  • Maintain communication channels with Expos in preparation and ensure constant coordination;
  • Respond to requests from Expos and Member States;
  • Review and analyse Expo documentation such as Registration and Recognition documents and Special Regulations;
  • Organisation of Committee meetings and working meetings with the Member States, their delegations and Expos;
  • Aid in the preparation of information and coordination meetings, prepare briefings comprising analyses and appraisal of existing and future cooperation between the Member States, their delegations, Expos and the BIE;
  • Compile, analyse and update relevant information and documentation concerning the political and economic situation of host countries;
  • Contribute to the daily press review of matters of interest to the BIE in relation to Expos;
  • Process and follow up correspondence sent to the Secretariat by the Expos;
  • Contribute to the production of documents and working papers resulting from the above activities, including drafting notes and reports;
  • Coordination with other departments of the Secretariat to ensure close collaboration and implementation of joint projects.

Profile

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in the field of International Relations, Political Science, Economics, Law or a related area;
  • Three to five years of relevant professional experience;
  • Very good knowledge of the BIE’s substantive work, and a strategic sense of the role of the BIE and Expos in the overall framework of international cooperation and domestic policy formulation;
  • Very good analytical skills and ability to draft in English and French (briefing notes, report, presentations, letters, etc.); good sense of organisation and coordination;
  • Excellent sense of human relations for work in a multicultural environment and skills for effective dialogue with delegations;
  • Excellent IT skills;
  • Excellent knowledge of English and French including excellent drafting skills; good knowledge of another Member State language.

A written test may be used in the evaluation of candidates.

Conditions of employment

BIE salaries are calculated and paid in Euros (€). For this post, the annual remuneration will fall between €40,000 and €43,000, exempt from income tax, dependant on professional experience.
