Since its first Expo participation in Expos at World Expo 1970 in Osaka, Cyprus has actively participated in World and Specialised Expos. In order to strengthen its involvement in Expos, it joined the BIE in 1999. Its participation in World Expo 2010 Shanghai was rewarded with a Silver Award in its category for the development of its theme.
