Expo 2020 Dubai – unlocking opportunities for Asia
With its theme “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future”, Expo 2020 Dubai offers multiple opportunities for the whole world, with a particularly strong interest in the World Expo from Asia’s emerging economies. Both situated in the Opportunity District, Indonesia and Viet Nam are participating in Expo 2020 Dubai to expand their connections with other countries and to work together in the creation of a more sustainable future. Didi Sumedi, the Commissioner-General of Indonesia, and Nguyen Phuong Hoa, the Commissioner-General of Viet Nam, lay out the reasons why Expo 2020 Dubai is such a crucial meeting point for their countries.
Didi Sumedi: Indonesia has a targeted vision for 2045, coinciding with the nation's 100th year of independence. In 2045, Indonesia envisions to play a role as the fifth largest economic power globally, a high-income country with one of the largest GDPs in the world through transformation in human development, sustainable economy, equitable development, and national resilience and governance.
To achieve this vision, we have made continuous efforts through innovation and the acceleration of resources and capabilities by utilising technological advances, creating superior resources through improvements to education, the development of a sustainable economy, and much more.
"Indonesia encourages the formation of a sustainable global ecosystem"
Indonesia also continues to reinforce its role in global economic and political developments. We encourage the formation of a sustainable global ecosystem by empowering resources and technology through responsible and adequate innovation. Our participation at Expo 2020 Dubai is a part of Indonesia's commitment to the global interest.
Nguyen Phuong Hoa: This year’s Expo marks the seventh time Viet Nam joins a World Expo under the coordination of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. Viet Nam’s pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai is, together with promotion of cultural and traditional values, also introducing for the first time several outstanding innovations in the pursuance of sustainability and saving a better world for the next generations. Visitors have shown great interest in Vietnamese waterproof and lightweight sneakers made from used coffee grounds and recycled plastic, colourful bio-based material created from shell seafood waste, the circular economy model that repurposes and recycles all by-products while producing world-class quality coffee, and many more.
"Expo 2020 Dubai is a great opportunity for us to showcase a bright future for Viet Nam"
As stated in the theme of Viet Nam pavilion, “Distilling the Past, Shaping the Future'', we want to feature a Viet Nam that is abundantly rich in culture and incredibly fast in adopting new technology while being highly responsible in developing sustainable values. Expo 2020 Dubai is a great opportunity for us to showcase a bright future for Viet Nam, where people will be placed at the centre of an inclusive and sustainable society.
Nguyen Phuong Hoa: With more than 3,200km of coastline, Viet Nam has long been a connecting point of Southeast and Northeast Asia, as well as a transit point promoting trade between the Middle East and South Asia with Northeast Asia. In other words, Viet Nam has always followed a tendency to exchange and integrate.
Culturally, Viet Nam has been the blend and crystallisation of numerous external elements besides the native culture. Treasuring tolerance and harmony, Vietnamese culture has flexibly embraced new and advanced aspects of other cultures while successfully preserving its own identity and tradition.
"The drive for innovation in technology remains key to Viet Nam’s success"
As a top rising star in the world’s tourist map, Viet Nam attracted 18 million international visitors before the Covid-19 pandemic. Notably, amid one of the most challenging periods for global tourism, Viet Nam has still been listed in the World Travel Awards’ Asia’s Leading Sustainable Destination 2021 and the World’s Best Golf Destination 2021.
Viet Nam has also become one of the most open economies in the world and an attractive investment destination thanks to stable politics, open policies, economic dynamism, and a young population that is quick to absorb advanced technology. Our pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai highlights the country’s expansion into more high-tech production. The drive for innovation in technology, combined with Viet Nam’s strong cultural identity, remains key to Viet Nam’s success, creating new opportunities for our country.
Didi Sumedi: Carrying the theme "Creating the Future, from Indonesia to the World", Indonesia's participation will bring the best of Indonesia to the world.
