Algeria has participated in Expos since the 1960s, notably with a pavilion at the World Expo 1967 in Montreal. It joined the BIE in 1997. Its participation has been rewarded on several occasions, such as World Expo 2010 Shanghai and World Expo 2015 Milan, where Algeria received the Gold Award in its category for thematic development.
