Turkey’s pavilion at Expo 2017 Astana was based on the theme “Sustainable Energy Through Global Synergy”, drawing on the country’s ‘natural intersection’ within energy flows while pointing to Turkey’s own potential and vision in sustainable energy.
With the motto “Turkey: Center of Energy”, the pavilion’s logo was a sunflower to symbolise the sun and clean energy with the message “the world full of peaceful and positive energy, able to smile safely in the future”. Two nested circles within the logo represented the centre while symbolising the distribution from the centre to the globe with outward arrows.
The pavilion was focused on the fair sharing of energy, referring to the significance of world peace, supply security, energy saving and renewable energy in relation to Turkey and its own energy policies and innovations.
Visitors were welcomed to the Turkish pavilion with an entrance gate inspired by Anatolian mills, accompanied by natural sounds of water. Once inside, visitors could learn about Turkey’s energy targets, getting a glimpse of the many pipelines passing through Turkish territory, and seeing a replica of the future airport of Istanbul, set to integrate the latest energy-saving technologies.
A number of Interactive exhibits allowed visitors to learn more about the theme, including a thermal camera showing the heat from everyone passing it, a multimedia “Energy Wheel” that provided information about steps towards sustainability, and the “I Conserve My Energy” digital game.
