Oceans provide humanity with a wealth of resources and activities.
As nations find themselves confronted with a climate that is changing at an accelerated speed and faced with a host of problems, including shortage of land space, depletion of resources, and environmental pollution, they are turning to the ocean for solutions. And they are turning to science and technology to help them do this.
EXPO Yeosu will thus highlight the importance of marine science and technology to put the ocean—or these “treasure boxes” – into use in a sustainable way.

“The sea, the great unifier, is man’s only hope. Now, as never before, the old phrase has a literal meaning: we are all in the same boat.” Jacques Yves Cousteau, French oceanographer, explorer, ecologist (1910 – 1997) |
Visitors at the Expo will be introduced to new technologies – in energy production, marine mineral resources exploration and utilization, deep sea water exploration, sustainable cultivation and fisheries, etc. — for a better, “bluer” future.
Blue technology for a new era of green growth – EXPO Yeosu 2012 will explore this potential in its sub-theme 2: “New Resources Technology.”
