The representatives of candidate countries met to discuss in a friendly and constructive atmosphere the various issued related to their candidature and coordinate the activities carried out as part of the candidature campaign.
One of the main items on the agenda was the preparation for the 150th session of the BIE General Assembly (November 22 – 23), when candidates will have the opportunity to present their projects to the representatives of the 157 Member States of the BIE.
Furthermore, to communicate and develop the theme, candidates will host international symposiums where experts and relevant personalities in the field will be invited to present and debate around the proposed theme.
To this date, the BIE has received the candidatures of Kazakhstan, Astana and Belgium Liège for the hosting of an International Expo in 2017 and of Turkey, Izmir and Thailand, Ayutthaya for a World Expo in 2020.
The deadline for the submission of candidatures for an International Expo in 2017 is December 10, while that for the submission of candidatures for a World Expo in 2020 is November 2.
