Third International Planning Meeting of Expo 2012 Yeosu held in Seoul

More than 300 representatives from 101 countries and 9 international organizations participated in the Third International Planning Meeting of Expo 2012 Yeosu held on February 8, 2012 in Seoul.

Three months before the opening of the Expo on May 12, the Expo organizer hosted this three-day meeting to review the overall preparation process and inform participants of the progress made and the different procedures.

VGL_third_meeting_2Presentations on the installation and operation of the exhibition spaces, the Cyber Expo, the site operation, admission and safety management, transportation, accommodation and tourism, commercial activities and use of the Expo symbols, public relation activities, cultural events and forums and the Yeosu Declaration were made. The participants exchanged views with the organizer and put forward suggestions to facilitate their preparation.

Participants showed great interest in the Yeosu Declaration, which will be presented on the closing day of the Expo, as a declaration of the role of the ocean in fulfilling the sustainable development of economy and environment goals of the international community.

Bilateral meetings took place on February 7 between the organizer and participants to discuss individually the preparation of each country's participation to the Expo.

"An Expo is the result of an effort of international cooperation, and a successful Expo is the result of an effort that involves concerted action and mutual support. The real strength of Expos lies in the interdependence between participants and organisers and on managing it appropriately from both sides", said Vicente Gonzalez Loscertales, Secretary General of the BIE during his speech at the opening ceremony.

Furthermore, the College of Commissioners of Section comprised of the official representatives of participating countries was constituted and a Steering Committee representing the College of Commissioners was elected.

As part of the International Planning Meeting, participants visited on Thursday, February 9, the city of Yeosu and the exhibition site. 93 percent of the exhibition facilities and infrastructure have been completed.

The 93-day Expo, under the theme "Living Ocean and Coat," is aim to attract more than eight million visitors from all over the world. Until today, a total of 106 countries and international organizations have signed in for Expo Yeosu.
