Title: Qifengge Palace Replica

Project by: Xi’an, China

A replica of the Qifengge Palace from the Tang Dynasty (618 – 907 AD) will be presented by Xi’an, capital of China’s Shaanxi Province, to house the city’s UBPA exhibit on the protection of historic buildings.

Relics of the palace – mostly foundations and pillars— will be covered in glass and presented to visitors to show how the construction appeared a thousand years ago.  The palace, literally meaning “a building for phoenix to live,” was a side palace for 17 Tang emperors.

Title: “Eco-House in Shanghai”

Project by: Shanghai, China

Design: For its participation at the UBPA, Shanghai will present “Eco-house in Shanghai,” featuring traditional Shanghai shikumen-style, natural shanghaiventilation systems and a geothermal heat exploitation network.  The inspiration for the project came from an eco-friendly office building in Xinzhuang Town, in  Shanghai’s Minhang district. The office building was the first of its kind in China and will be remodeled into a residential structure in the Expo zone to demonstrate energy efficiency concepts. The four-story structure containing eight apartments will cover around 3,000 square meters in the Puxi section of the Expo site.

Concept: The "Eco-house in Shanghai" aims to achieve zero energy consumption inside the structure. Plants help cool the building and skylights filter the sun and help make rooms airy.

The house will also make use of solar and wind power. Rain will be collected and light-emitting diode (LED) technology will be adopted for the lighting. The structure promotes a healthy and sustainable lifestyle, and the residence is planned to be piloted in the city after the Expo.
