Commissioner-General of Pavilion: Annika Rembe
Architect: SWECO (Swedish engineering and design company)
Design: The Pavilion of Sweden, covering an area of 3000m2, will be in the shape of a large square, divided into four sections by crossroads, in resemblance to its own national flag. The focus of the pavilion will be on the interaction between urban and rural areas, and three of its sections will represent urban areas, while the last section will be an open-air terrace, representing nature.
Concept: The Swedish pavilion will be animated by three keywords: innovation, sustainability, and communication. The underlying concept of the pavilion is family and “the good life;” and the message of the pavilion will be that communication between citizens, authorities, and the local environment is the basis of an open and harmonious community. ![]()
The pavilion will embody the Swedish affinity for nature, which makes it a source of inspiration and creativity for Swedes. According to the designers of the pavilion, “What makes a city attractive are the networks which are created between people. An open, inviting and enriched urban room provides a good base for life energy and innovation. The pavilion will reflect the meeting between city and nature and the optimism and strength that can be created where they come together.”
The pavilion will also present the innovative and sustainable nature of Swedish companies, regions, and organizations.
The Swedish government will be funding a total of 22.06 million USD on its Expo activities and about 10 million USD for the pavilion.
