Among topics discussed were the Summit Forum at the end of the Expo—jointly organized by the Expo, BIE, and UN-DESA— and the "Shanghai Declaration," as well as other issues raised by the participants.
The Steering Committee, composed of 32 Commissioners-General and presided by Japan's Commissioner-General, Hiroshi Tsukamoto, deals with issues of common interest to the participant countries and works to ensure that regulations related to the Expo are respected. The Steering Committee meets once a month during the Expo, providing a practical means for Commissioners-General of participating countries to have adequate representation vis-à-vis the Expo Commissioner-General and the organizers. It also ensures that participating countries have a direct channel of communication to the BIE.
Also in presence at this 7th meeting were: Hua Junduo, China's Commissioner-General at the Expo; Hong Hao, Huang Jianzhi, and Zhu Yonglei, Director and Deputy Directors, respectively, of the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination; and Awni Behnam, Commissioner-General of the UN Pavilion.
EXPO 2010 was congratulated by the BIE Secretary-General, Vicente Gonzalez Loscertales for its achievements, having already attracted over 55 million visitors, and he urged organizers and participants to continue their efforts to see through a successful Expo.
