The BIE Day Ceremony began with a flag presentation of all the BIE Member States carried by Boy Scouts from the Aichi Scout Council, Scout Association of Japan and pavilion attendants. Following the flag presentation, the official ceremony began with the anthems of Japan and the BIE while both flags were being raised.

The office of the Commissioner for Zaragoza 2008 announced that Tanzania officially accepted participation to the Expo on 1st March 2007. Tanzania is the 74th nation to confirm that it will be present in a pavilion in Zaragoza 2008 to present their initiatives, vision and progress on Water and Sustainable Development. Tanzania has been a BIE member state of the BIE first between 1963 and 1977 and then since 1997.

In May and throughout the summer, two tricycles that can carry up to three people and with the Expo Zaragoza 2008 logo, will be in service in Zaragoza, as taxis. Expo Zaragoza 2008 today sponsors the launch of these cycle-taxis called "Gotaxis." The cycle-taxis are shaped like a water drop, from which they also borrow the name "gota" (water drop in Spanish) as a reminder of the theme of Expo Zaragoza 2008 � Water and Sustainable Development �.
